Policies

  1. All work involving human subjects must be cleared with the University of Minnesota Institutional Review Board (IRB).
  2. Copies of IRB application and approval are to be submitted to the SBSL for record keeping purposes. We understand this information is confidential.

Procedure

Project Initiation. SBSL staff meet with researchers to gather contact information, deadlines, hardware and software requirements, design considerations, and privacy and security issues.

Draft project plan. SBSL develops a draft project plan for review of the researchers.

IRB Approval. SBSL staff will work with researchers to describe the facilities and procedures for IRB applications.

Preliminary Scheduling. Once an IRB application is filed, SBSL staff will set a preliminary schedule for the study.

Development. If necessary, SBSL staff will assist with software customization for experiments.

Final Review. Once development is complete, SBSL staff will meet with researchers to review project requirements to ensure they are met.

Scheduling. The schedule is finalized once IRB approval is secured.

Experiments. Researchers are responsible for the conduct of experiments, including subject identification, reception, instruction, monitoring, debriefing, and payment, if any.

Data Delivery. Data will be delivered from the secured SBSL servers to researchers. Data is removed from SBSL servers upon successful delivery.
